What We Believe

By faith we believe:

…the Bible is verbally inspired by God, it is inerrant in the original writings, and it is the Christian's final authority in faith and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

…that there is only one true, living sovereign, holy, and eternally God. God is infinitely perfect and He exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  (Genesis 1:31)

…by the miracle of the virgin birth - that the Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God.

… that He became man without ceasing to be God, to reveal God and to redeem mankind from sin.

… that Christ died for the sins of all people as a substitutionary sacrifice and He rose from the dead for our justification.

…that He is now exalted at the right hand of God as Head of the Church. Christ is Lord of the individual believer, fulfilling His ministry as our Great High Priest and Advocate. (John 1:1-3,14; Matthew 1:18-25; Philippians 2:5-9; Colossians 1:15; I Corinthians 15:1-8; Acts 1:11)

… that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by convicting the world of sin and regenerating the believing sinner, baptizing him into the church (which is the Body of Christ).

…that the Holy Spirit indwells, guides, instructs, and empowers believers for Godly living and service.

… that God gives all believers at least one spiritual gift so we can use this gift for the growth, maturity and witness of the Church. (John 14:16-19; 16:7-15; I Corinthians 6:19-20; Romans 8:9,11; Titus 3:5).

Our History

On January 14th 1962, Southeast Dallas Baptist Church was organized in the home of Reverend Thurman Perry. Sunday morning service and Wednesday evening service were held in the home of Reverend Perry and Brother Clark L. Malone.  Reverend Perry taught Bible lessons, temporary officers were elected, and small offerings were received.

On January 31st 1962, moderator Reverend R.C. McNeil, the late pastor of Greater New Bethel Baptist Church, officially organized Southeastern Dallas Baptist Church. Nine members from Greater New Bethel Baptist Church joined the new Southeast Dallas Baptist Church.  Reverend Perry was officially chosen to pastor the new church.

From January 14th, 1962 to April 1st 1962, the church worshiped at 2405 Toreman, renting the facility for $50 a month.  Initial intentions were to renovate this building to suit the church’s needs.  On March 25th 1962, the first service was held in the new Southeast Dallas Baptist Church building.  Services continued there until February of 1963, when the church purchased property at 4228 Penelope.  The church continued to grow, and in April of 1965 the church relocated to Octavia and Jordan.  Finally, in 1969, the church moved to its present location at 1323 South Ewing Avenue.  At this time the name of the church was changed to Ewing Avenue Baptist Church.

Since inception the church has pointed men, women, boys, and girls toward God.  Recently, in 2001, the church formed a youth drill team and a junior brotherhood organization.  This church has held high the banner of Christ through all kinds of adversity and turmoil, sharing and modeling the good news of Jesus Christ throughout the community.
